Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first woman to be elected vice president and she is also the most powerful female officer in American history. As a member of the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and an United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, before being recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then to the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected the city's district attorney. In 2010, Harris was elected Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. She was a senator who advocated for healthcare and federal de-scheduling cannabis. A path towards citizenship for migrants who aren't legal. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. The attention of the nation was drawn by her outspoken questioning of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
